Why am I running?

I have spent virtually my entire adult life in Bethel.  The sense of community and the excellent school system were the deciding factors for us to raise our two youngest sons here when we moved back from NJ.   I have always had a passion for passive recreation and athletics.   I have now decided to combine that passion with my professional background in budgeting and expense management in an attempt to make a positive impact in the community that I care for deeply.

Expense management and revenue growth has been a huge part of my professional life for the past 25 years.  The creating and reviewing monthly/quarterly and annual budgets has always been a strength of mine.  As a result, I was asked to assist in creating budgets for entire organizations vs the locations that I had direct accountability for.   The most important piece of the puzzle though is accountability.  Providing feedback at scheduled points throughout a fiscal year is critical.  In my career, I have had no issue having the tough conversations and using them a tool to maintaining financially responsibility with my team.

I believe that I am a good candidate for this position as I have a 360 degree view of the financial landscape.   As a parent, community volunteer and a member of the P&R commission for the past 6 years, I understand the delicate balance of providing what our town leaders and residents are requesting while keeping in mind the burden that taxes have on the day to day lives of those in our community.

What do I hope to accomplish? – Top Goals

A top goal of mine is to provide input into the budgetary process that will provide current residents the security to remain in the place they call home.   At the same time, and equally as important, making smart investments into the town so that those that are considering Bethel as a place to raise their family see it as an attractive option.   There are many factors that go into selecting a place to live.  We must have an open mind, with an eye towards the future, when making choices on funding requests.

A second goal of mine is to be a part of creating an environment that encourages commercial/retail/infrastructure development to support our growing population.   We have had and will continue to have a significant amount of residential development.  It’s important that our infrastructure keep up with that growth.  Building relationships and encouraging discussions with our department heads will allow us to fully understand what the future needs are for the Town of Bethel.  The mindset needs to be proactive vs reactive.   That can be achieved with collaboration among all stakeholders in the process including our residents.
